About Donna

WattsI am a life-long resident of Johnston County. I grew up in Clayton and attended Clayton High School. I graduated from Watts Hospital School of Nursing as a RN and have worked as a public health nurse in communicable disease, school health, pediatrics and home health. Formerly I was a medical consultant for the In- Home Services program in the NC Department of Public Health, where I helped establish the standard of practice for geriatric case management in North Carolina and the country.

Prior to being elected as your representative I worked as an Aging and Health Specialist in the Division of Aging and Adult Services in the NC Department of Health and Human Services, where I developed a model of intervention to assist elder victims of telemarketing fraud and scams, the Victims Assistance Program, that is now used state-wide. Through this program I was privileged to be the co-host of the “Carl & Donna Show”, heard on WTSB AM 1090, which highlights fraud and scam prevention for the elderly.

sworn in2I served three terms on the Johnston County Board of Education and was the only elected school board member in NC appointed by the Governor to serve on the Governor’s Task Force on Safer Schools. I am the Chair of the Clayton Board of Adjustment. I am also a member of the Johnston County Area Transit Service Advisory Board and the Johnston County Schools Health Advisory Board. I previously served for 15 years on the Clayton Planning Board, and I was chairman of the Clayton High School Advisory Council for 13 years. I am an active member and Drama Director for Hocutt Baptist Church in Clayton.
